Common Name: yellow-poplar
Scientific Name: Liriodendron tulipifera
Category: Historic tree
Comments: Thomas Jefferson planted two tuliptrees on either side of Monitcello, which he gave individual names. The larger one (named Juno, I believe) is about eight feet in diameter, and so is one of the largest in existence (perhaps number two in the state). No doubt, the folks at Monticello could tell you more.
