This week, we'll add yet another oak, but the bark on this one doesn't resemble any of the other trees you'll see out in the woods. Think of it like alligator skin. Black walnut is another compound leaf species with alternate branching, like mockernut hickory. The inside of the twig is split into hollow chambers, though, and if you scrape off some bark, it will be chocolate brown underneath. A dead giveaway. Good luck!!
