Comments: Situated on a ridge overlooking the horseshoe bend of James River at Scottsville, the tree is reported to be approximately 300 years old. This tree was likely here when Scottsville was founded in 1744, survived the Civil War and was spared from wildfire and timber cutting. Apparently open grown, the average crown spread is 120 feet. CBH is 184 inches and the height is 85 feet.
