Common Name: eastern hemlock
Scientific Name: Tsuga canadensis
Category: Other
Comments: These are lengendary hemlocks located a few minutes from Washington DC (near CIA headquarters) although they look like they came from the mountains or some isolated area where they had time to grow huge. They were awesome because of the great heights and seem much older than the surrounding trees of other kinds. The hemlock on the left was deceased in 2007, and the one at right presumably died in 2008. Both obtained a height of 140 feet and nearly 10 feet girth.
Dendrology Notes: Dead
