Common Name: eastern redcedar
Scientific Name: Juniperus virginiana
Category: Old tree
Comments: I found these ancient redcedars on a shale barren bluff at the Locher tract, near the champion buckeye. I have seen the Bristlecone Pines in California, and some of these cedars have gnarled, obviously ancient wood that resembles them. Not only are they stunningly photogenic, they are probably contenders for the oldest trees in the state.
