Common Name: eastern redcedar
Scientific Name: Juniperus virginiana
Category: Champion (big) tree
Comments: The tree on the right is the new state champion redcedar in 2008. It is flanked by a very large southern magnolia. Old photographs taken around the turn of the 20th Century show a grove of redcedars where this tree now stands. It and a companion redcedar are probably the only remaining specimens from that grove. The tree is therefore probably well over 100 years old. It appears to be in good health.
