A Remarkable silver maple

Tree Information

Common Name: silver maple

Scientific Name: Acer saccharinum

Category: Beautiful tree

Comments: I grew up here in Loudoun County and have seen a lot of changes..some good and some bad. Unfortunately though, when you live in a place so full of history and seen the changes here, most of them, at least in my opinion have been bad ones. The life cycle of the trees here in Leesburg have been threatened by all of the booming development even though Leesburg keeps saying that they are the "Tree Capital". I chuckle to myself every time I hear that, although I have not heard it recently. According to the town's arborist, the canopy cover in this area has dimished substantually and keeps getting worse. I live in one of the older subdivisions called "The Fairview Subdivision" here in town and have many trees on my property. One in particular is a silver maple (I believe) in the back yard that is one of the reasons I considered buying this house. It's canopy is so huge that the limbs stretch from one side of my property to the other. The circumfirence of the trunk is very large

Best time to photograph: Summer in the AM or around noon
