Comments: Once useful and imported from the midwest to provide gentlemen with cut-and-laid fencing. These stately giants are notable for ornamenting and guarding this 18th and 19th and 20th century house, built among rich planters by Pennsylvania Dutch family farmers. In the mid-19th century, this house was a station on the underground railroad! Near Greenway Court, seat of Lord Farifax, employer of George Washington as surveyor.
