Comments: Shortleaf pine is a keystone species of the Virginia piedmont. These trees at the Holiday Lake 4-H Educational Center, have seen thousands of 4-H campers and Virginia Tech forestry students over the past 60 years. The camp is located in the Buckingham-Appomattox State Forest, the single largest expanse of uninterupted piedmont forest found in Virginia.
