Common Name: ginkgo
Scientific Name: Ginkgo biloba
Category: Old tree
Comments: I believe this tree, a male Ginkgo, could be in either category for Historic or Old tree. It is a massive tree standing in the center of a National Civil War Cemetery, and is believed to have been there since around 1900. It has grown over both grave markers that are on either side of its' trunk. One can only imagine the history this tree has witnessed. Such a beautiful and stoic sentry overseeing the some 15,000 soldiers buried there deserves a nod and recognition.
Best time to photograph: Late afternoon to early evening
