Common Name: eastern redcedar
Scientific Name: Juniperus virginiana
Category: Historic tree
Comments: This large Red Cedar, located on Henry Hill in Manassas National Battlefield Park, the site of the first Battle of Manassas, has a 12 foot circumference, stands 40 feet tall, and has a canopy cover area of 41 feet. Although not a champion, it is certainly large for the species and thought to be very old. It is highly probable that this tree was a mere sapling around the time of the first and second Battles of Manassas which marked the beginning of the Civil War, making it historically significant.
