Common Name: southern red oak
Scientific Name: Quercus falcata
Category: Champion (big) tree
Comments: DBH is 74", height is approx. 75 ft. Not very tall as it is a field oak, but diameter is quite stout with large limbs as well. Tree is probably nearing the end of its life, crown is thinning and several very large low branches have been cut due to the tree's proximity to an old homeplace. (Note: this is the 6th largest southern red oak on record in the Virginia big tree database.)
