Common Name: coast redwood
Scientific Name: Sequoia sempervirens
Category: Community tree
Comments: The tree is a redwood. It is located on Pumphouse Road in Richmond, Virginia in the Carillion neighborhood. The tree is located in a small park. I would like to nominate this tree because of its meaning. This tree was planted after the sudden death of a five-month old baby who died of SIDS. His parents now run the Hayes Hitzman Foundation. The tree was planted during his memorial service and is about four years old. They planted the tree to watch it grow and to remind them of their son. This tree may be small but contains so much soul and meaning.
