Common Name: Osage-orange
Scientific Name: Maclura pomifera
Category: Champion (big) tree
Comments: According to John Swift, retired forester in Amherst County, this osage orange tree is the second largest in Virginia. It is taller, but with a more narrow trunk, than the largest. The tree stands behind a house that I am currently restoring, the oldest part having been built around 1760.
