Stand conditions: This hardwood stand occupies a hillside
in Patrick County Virginia. The species mix suggests that this is a fairly
good site. A tree core was not taken to determine age, but a good guess
would be around 50 years old. This stand does appear to be mostly the
same age. Larger trees are larger because they are growing faster. After
this diameter limit cut, only the small (slower growing) trees will remain
to occupy the site.
Age: 50
Trees per acre: 299
Total value per acre: $4978 * (This seems a little high.
Please remember this is based on one sample plot. The next sample plot
may contain only 4 trees!)
- Sawtimber: 12,600 board feet = $4788
- Pulpwood: 11 cords = $190
Cut
it!
* Growth data represented here is based on one prism
point sample within the harvested stand. Monetary data is based on 2003
dollars and timber values. Actual payments to landowners are generally
50% of gross payments, but vary widely with distance to mills, terrain,
harvest size, etc.
