Common Name: willow oak
Scientific Name: Quercus phellos
Category: Champion (big) tree
Comments: Enormous, symmetrical willow oak, comparable in size to the VA state champion in Gloucester and possibly bigger. Might be the largest tree in Arlington. Property was owned by WWII vet who died in 2011, and may have died intestate. Tiny ranch house on lot has no value and will be torn down. Lot is large enough for two new million-dollar homes. Tree is in middle of lot, and would have to be removed to allow any type of construction. So the tree faces great risk of being cut down as soon as the property is sold.
Best time to photograph: anytime
