Common Name: yaupon holly
Scientific Name: Ilex vomitoria
Category: Champion (big) tree
Comments: This is one of the largest yaupon hollies known to grow in North America. (It was a national co-champion in 2008.) Yaupon, also known as black drink, was at one time the most important caffeinated beverage in the Americas, maybe even the world. Now that distinction is enjoyed by coffee and tea.
