Common Name: willow oak
Scientific Name: Quercus phellos
Category: Beautiful tree
Comments: This beautiful Willow oak is in the center of the lawn at Hockley Farm on the Ware River. It has a perfect shape with a full symmetrical crown. Its location in relationship to the river and house indicates it was chosen and planted to enhance the vista of a colonial river plantation. The tree has been the favorite of my family over 50 years. Under the deep shade of this tree my children have played, had a swing and a sand box, lay on blankets in the shade as babies, eaten picnic lunches, etc. This tree is often one the the first things remarked on by visitors to Hockley.
Best time to photograph: summer or late spring
