A Remarkable willow oak

Tree Information

Common Name: willow oak

Scientific Name: Quercus phellos

Category: Historic tree

Comments: There is a very large, historic willow oak on Sherwood Hall Lane in South Alexandria (near the Evening Lane cross street). This tree is historically significant, having been on the original George Washington estate, and has survived the ravages of road widening and subdivision developement in the area. At one point construction was stopped on a nearby housing development because heavy equipment violated the exclusion area around the tree.

No picture has been submitted.
