Common Name: flowering dogwood
Scientific Name: Cornus florida
Category: Champion (big) tree
Comments: This Dogwood sits in the middle of a field on a farm in Buckingham County. It has a diameter of approximately 12-14 inches at its base, and presently is loaded with buds. The bracts are just beginning to open. I believe this tree is quite majestic for its size, and has remained healthy despite its age.
