Comments: This tree is a 100% native American Chestnut found growing naturally on a fence row. It has been used as a 100% "mother tree" for the American Chestnut Foundation backcross breeding program (Pollen from ACF was used on its female flowers). The nuts collected from it will be planted this spring (2008) and studied for blight resistance. It is currently the second largest A. chestnut on record for Virginia in 2008.
