Comments: This is the largest butternut on record for Virginia in 2007, with a circumference of 219 inches. Lighting damage was reported in 1994, but a lighting rod was installed. Tree is still alive and cared for by Bartlett Tree Experts in 2006. Planted by J.D. Hertzler in 1897 from a tree in Maryland.
