Common Name: yellow-poplar
Scientific Name: Liriodendron tulipifera
Category: Historic tree
Comments: This tree is located in the Greenfield recreation park, which is a remnant of the old Greenfield plantation, one of the original giant plantations of Virginia. I have walked around Greenfield many times, but have marked only this tree as old enough to have stood in the plantation days. It still produces beautiful tulip flowers in the spring. It has an old wound (from a tractor or mowing machine?) low on its trunk
