Common Name: willow oak
Scientific Name: Quercus phellos
Category: Beautiful tree
Comments: I bought my house because of the magnificent tree in the back yard. Perhaps its most remarkable feature is its expansive root base. Its canopy is over 100 feet wide. Its height is almost 80 feet. Its diameter is five feet. In the spring it covers the entire back yard with a one-inch thick blanket of fuzzy brown flowers. In the late fall it covers the yard with a six-inch thick blanket of narrow leaves. Presently (Oct '07) it is dropping small acorns like crazy! But I still love my Willow Oak!
