A Remarkable white oak

Tree Information

Common Name: white oak

Scientific Name: Quercus alba

Category: Other

Comments: This tree is a legendary tree that had to be removed in the summer of 2007 due to trunk and root decay. It was truly awesome. In addition to being an old tree, I believe it to be historic and incredibly beautiful. It stood on the grounds of Woodberry Forest School in Woodberry, VA, in front of "The Residence" (home of the current headmaster, and once owned by Pres. James Madison's brother). I took this picture in the summer of 2005 and as I stand 6', 280 lbs and you can see how it absolutely dwarfed me!
