Comments: Family oral history says that this seckel pear tree was planted in 1846 to commemorate the wedding that same year of Dr. John Sheppard and his wife (Virginia Young Sheppard), owners of Meadow Farm. Meadow Farm remained in the Sheppard family from the founding in 1713 until 1975 when the widow of the last John Sheppard family descendant donated the property to the County of Henrico.
