Common Name: white oak
Scientific Name: Quercus alba
Category: Old tree
Comments: This tree (a white oak, I think) is very venerable... it is a "pasture tree" left to shade livestock...limbs almost touch the ground and turn back up...on all sides...white oaks are very slow growers in this area, since the soil is very shallow and shalely...I have white oaks not even an eighth of the size of this one, that cores show are 80 plus years old. The church site was here in the 1750s, during French and Indian war, although this building is second on site. Tree probably was here too.
No picture has been submitted.
Best time to photograph: Late spring...afternoon fromnorth to show old church too in background.
