Comments: This dead snag is an American chestnut tree that died during the chestnut blight of the 1930's. Remarkably, it is still standing in 2006. Samples of wood from the snag were identified by Dr. Audrey Zink-Sharp in the Virginia Tech Department of Wood Science.
