Comments: This oak tree is located in the centuries old Stonewall Jackson Memorial Cemetery in Lexington. This cemetery holds the remains of a number of 18th and 19th century Virginians including: Stonewall Jackson, Francis H. Smith (1st Supt. of VMI), Civil War Governor John Letcher, and William Henry Ruffner (Virginia's 1st Supt. of Virginia's Public Schools). The cemetery has graves dating to the mid 1700's. The tree is very large and some of the branches are so big and have such a large span that they've been cabled for support.
