Comments: This remarkable Oak is located in the center of the Historic Resting Tree Slave Cemetery (44WG0562) in Sugar Hollow Park in the City of Bristol, Virginia. The cemetery is on federal land administered by the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA). The tree is in excellent condition. It measures 15.6 feet in circumference and 57 inches in diameter. The tree measures approximately 85 feet in height. The average crown spread is 46.5 feet (see Note 1). It has been allowed to grow in its natural state for centuries. The Resting Tree Cemetery was once part of a 920 acre plantation known as Walnut Grove and owned by Colonel Robert Preston. There is little in the way of official records to provide documentation on the cemetery and the people buried there.
