Common Name: blackgum
Scientific Name: Nyssa sylvatica
Category: Old tree
Comments: This is a blackgum located on our family property. Our property was homesteaded in 1838. I'm not sure of the age of the tree but my Dad, born in 1910, told stories of standing under its shade with the plow horse when they rested from plowing the fields. The tree more or less is the size of a residential home site.
