A Remarkable white oak

Tree Information

Common Name: white oak

Scientific Name: Quercus alba

Category: Historic tree

Comments: I think this tree has a lot of past history and current history. This tree died in the 1980's after living for hundreds of years. This tree got so large that cables had to be installed to hold the limbs which were larger that most normal trees. There was a large spring whcih came out from under the tree where during the Civil War the Confederate soldiers would drink from the spring. The farm was bought by Robert Porterfield, one of the founders of the Barter theater. He named his farm twin oak farms because there was another large oak tree beside this oak. Many famous actors sit under this large oak. Now there is a stump to remind us of this history.
