Common Name: black oak
Scientific Name: Quercus velutina
Category: Old tree
Comments: This is a tree that is located on my father's farm in the middle of a hill with no others trees near by. It's one of those stately old friends you see standing alone in the field to give refuge to the cows. It measures 192" around the trunk and it's branches span 63'. It is pretty majestic looking across the field and from the right angle overlooks the town of Weyers Cave with the blue ridge mountains in the background.
