Common Name: yellow-poplar
Scientific Name: Liriodendron tulipifera
Category: Champion (big) tree
Comments: This tree measures the sixth largest on file for the tulip-poplar for the state of Virginia. A local Boy Scout, working on his Eagle, built a trail to the tree and installed a protective rope about 75 feet from the trunk to encourage visitors not to compress the ground around the tree. Another Eagle Scout prepared signage describing the tree to include that it is on record with the Virginia Remarkable Tree Program, and built benches to allow sitting beyond the protected area, to observe the tree and reflect.
Nominator: Ned Goodwin and Marty Kline
