Common Name: blackgum
Scientific Name: Nyssa sylvatica
Category: Old tree
Comments: This tree is the third largest blackgum recorded for Virginia in 2006. The species is known to be a slow-growing, long-lived tree, so we presume this is an old tree. Union soldiers were said to have camped here and drew water from the nearby spring. We love our trees!!
