Common Name: Yulan magnolia
Scientific Name: Magnolia denudata
Category: Beautiful tree
Comments: This tree is planted on the northeast walkway leading to the Rotunda at the University of Virginia. It has an exceptionally graceful habit with its lower limbs skimming the ground and embracing an artfully placed bench. In early spring, always threatened by frosts, it is covered in ivory colored chalices of bloom. According to some tree lists we have from the University, it might date from the 1930's or '40's.
Best time to photograph: march
