Comments: We would actually like to nominate two trees. These are two white oaks which stand approximately 4 feet apart located just above a spring. The one closest to the highway is 140 inches in circumference and the second tree is 155 inches in circumference. Our trees have two stories associated with them. The first story is said to have taken place just after the Civil War. At that time, stills were outlawed but some were licensed. A still was operated just beneath the two white oaks and got water from the spring. An older African American woman told the tale that as a child she had once gotten drunk from licking the cloths used to strain the peach brandy. There is still a foot of thick, black dirt beneath the trees from ashes of burned wood used to make the alcohol and also from brandy residue.
