Comments: In June 1781, British Colonel Banastre Tarleton and his Green Dragoons pursued Governor Thomas Jefferson and the Virginia General Assembly from Richmond to Charlottesville. They camped around this prominent white oak now called "Tarleton's Oak". The city arborist estimates its age at approximately 400 years.
