Comments: This freestanding willow oak with a circumference of 15'-5" is in the rear yard of the oldest house in Charlottesville, Virginia. The Nicholas Lewis House from 1770 was built by Meriwether Lewis's uncle as the cook's house on "The Farm." A DAR plaque on the house records its history as the location of British Colonel Banastre Tarleton's camp in June 1781.
