A Remarkable pecan

Tree Information

Common Name: pecan

Scientific Name: Carya illinoinensis

Category: Champion (big) tree

Comments: This tree fits many categories: it's big, it's old, and it's beautiful! It is truly magnificent and perfect in form, symmetry, and health. It sits alone at the crest of a hill, among the tombstones, museums, and historic plantings in Lynchburg's Old City Cemetery. Our pecan tree is much loved for the ample shade it provides under its sheltering branches--and for the joy of remembering "olden times" on the 30-foot swing hanging from it lowest branch.

Best time to photograph: winter or early spring, cloudy day, noon
