A Remarkable yellow-poplar

Tree Information

Common Name: yellow-poplar

Scientific Name: Liriodendron tulipifera

Category: Unique tree

Comments: One of the oldest trees in Shenandoah National Park is a massive tulip poplar that is about 10-ft in circumference and located just above the springs that supply Camp Hoover in Madison County. This tree is gnarled by time and the roots have somehow managed to wedge themselves in the interstices of the stony soil. It truly is an amazing specimen of the will to survive and a living statue of fortitude. If life seems to be overwhelming have a visit with this tree and one will know what is meant by the old saying- endeavor to persevere.
