Comments: This is a legendary tree, once the state and national champion yellow-poplar. In addtion to being the largest of its type, the tree is the only champion tree in Virginia to have a park created just for people to enjoy it. Poplar Park was dedicated on April 28, 1991 and is maintained by the City of Bedford Department of Parks, Recreation and Cemeteries. In 2007 part of the tree broke apart so the City pruned the tree to avoid future liability.
