Comments: Editor's note: This tree has been removed from the campus. I am a 2003 graduate of Randolph-Macon College in Ashland and am also a proud member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity. The Kappa Sigma house at Randolph-Macon is a very old house that has numerous stories that are passed down involving the civil war, ghosts (we called her Kitty), and others. The most remarkable aspect of the house to me is a giant tree in the side yard. The house has a rather large side yard with a single large tree at the very end of the yard and beyond that a ways is the college's soccer field. In this tree, well beyond reach, is an old bicycle that the tree has grown around. Sticking straight out of the tree is the tire and pedal of an old fashion style bicycle. Apparently the bicycle was placed next to the tree for a very long time and the tree grew around the bicycle and carried it up with it as it grew. Aside from being an amazing sight, this tree has preserved a part of the college. Over the years
