Comments: The Appalachian Trail passes next to this tree, which is in a Revolutionary War-era cemetery atop Pearis Mountain just outside the Town of Pearisburg. Captain George Pearis, who donated 200 acres for the Giles County Courthouse, is buried there. The cemetery represents a community renewal project involving the citizens of Pearisburg, Giles County, Appalachian Trail Council and the US Forest Service.
