Common Name: white oak
Scientific Name: Quercus alba
Category: Beautiful tree
Comments: We feel very strongly that this wonderful tree (pictured below) is worthy of this honor. One of the most majestic white oaks we have ever seen, it sits on the front lawn of our family inn and home, Chester, in Scottsville, Virginia. Chester is a historic property, built in 1847, and sits on seven acres of arboretum grounds, where this tree--which predates the house--is certainly one of the major focal points. In addition to its beauty and stature, the tree holds special meaning for many, as it has presided over 40 wedding ceremonies, including that of our daughter's.
