Common Name: Japanese maple
Scientific Name: Acer palmatum
Category: Old tree
Comments: My house was built in 1938. It is believed this tree was here when the house was built or planted at that time. I had one arborist tell me he thought the tree may be as old as seventy five years. He said he had never seen a Japanese Maple as big as the one in my yard. He also told me that Japanese Maples don't usually live that long. (Note: this is the third largest J. maple on record for Virginia.)
