Common Name: eastern white pine
Scientific Name: Pinus strobus
Category: Champion (big) tree
Comments: Tree is in a flood zone on the banks of the Little River and it is remarkable that it has survived for so long with the floods it has obviously endured. It is 162 inches in circumference, about 90 feet tall, and has an average crown of about 45 feet. It appears to have been topped so that it would not grow into a power line, so might have been much taller if left undisturbed. It is presently the 4th largest white pine on record for Virginia.
Best time to photograph: early spring
