Comments: This is a large, beautiful sassafras tree on the lane at Chippokes Plantation State Park. The plantation was patented in 1619 and was an early exporter of grain products to England. According to Virginia Tech Extension Specialist Jeff Kirwan, sassafras was an early export from the Virginia colony.
