Common Name: white oak
Scientific Name: Quercus alba
Category: Historic tree
Comments: This is the Brompton Oak on the Mary Washington campus (on lawn of President's House, must have permission to visit). It appears in a Matthew Brady photo that shows Union soldiers recuperating from their wounds under it. That photo is sharp and incredibly moving and we are awaiting permission from the Library of Congress to reproduce it.
