A Remarkable blackgum

Tree Information

Common Name: blackgum

Scientific Name: Nyssa sylvatica

Comments: This is a legendary tree that was located in a Falls Church City Historical Park known as "Cherry Hill." It was nominated as a big tree by the Village Preservation and Improvement Society of Falls Church in 1973. Unfortunately the tree was deemed hazardous in the aftermath of Hurricane Isabel, and cut down. The tree was solid, however.
